Local construction company Wilding Butler is continuing to buck the industry downturn after winning two new church building contracts worth over £4 million.
The company, based at Colden Common near Winchester, has been appointed to build two new churches – further positioning the business as one of the experts in ecclesiastical construction.
These latest church contracts give Wilding Butler a portfolio of 10 ecclesiastical projects and will see the company use up to 70 locally-based subcontractors to help them create the new facilities.
The first, for The Portsmouth Diocesan Trading Company Ltd is a project to build the new Sacred Heart and St Peter the Apostle Roman Catholic Church in Waterlooville worth almost £3 million. A number of green and energy efficient features will be incorporated into the new church including rainwater harvesting and photovoltaic cells to produce electricity for the new building. The second scheme is a £1.3 million project to build a two-storey church for The Beacon Church in Camberley, Surrey.
“We’re delighted we’ve had such a great start to 2010” says Phil Wilding, Wilding Butler managing director. “We’ve been fortunate enough to work on a number of ecclesiastical projects in the past and are excited to have the opportunity to create brand new churches that will benefit local communities.” He adds: “As well as our directly employed team, we also plan to generate local employment opportunities by working with local suppliers and subcontractors on these two new schemes.”
